The Summer Situation

March 5, 2008

For all of you who might be interested in what happened in my life over the summer, here is a brief summary. Basically I worked in the Materials engineering labs at Auburn University for two months. I was investigating high temperature mechanical properties of a material called GammaMetPX and the affect of various processing techniques on these properties. During the time (hopefully this will not make me sound like too much of a nerd) I taught myself more in depth linear algebra from MIT’s Open Course Ware project. They have a good number of video lectures and so that was a great experience. During this time I also found a place on the internet that tells you how to construct a Scanning Tunneling Microscope for about a $1000-$1500 investment. This type of microscope will allow you to sense structures with nanometer resolution, so I think I may just do it. The other large more just for fun project I have been slowly working on is maybe a short story or longer called “The Beggars”. A perhaps even less pressing project would be to try to learn Chinese, since I got a good deal of exposure recently (see below). We will see if any of these three things ever comes about depending on how much of my time I want to devote to them.
Honey
Mainly I have been hanging out at our duplex with William Dunham and his puppy named “Honey” (see pic), learning to play guitar with Andrew Thompson, and just in general hanging out with the navs in town while doing a Bible study on the entire New Testament. Read the rest of this entry »
